From the Editor: August 2005
What a start. If my first few weeks are anything to go by, life doesn't get much more eventful, or enjoyable, than working at the helm of Motor Boats Monthly.
The main highlight - of course - was the Trafalgar 200 celebrations and International Fleet Review. The MBM team on board Calm Voyager was right at the heart of the small boats' sailpast, along with some lucky readers whose boats won places in April issue's competition.
You can read all about the historic day on page four, but from a personal point of view, it was incredible to be part of such a rare event on so grand a scale. Sharing the Solent with submarines, aircraft carriers and tall ships, not to mention every shape and size of leisure craft, was a moving celebration of all things maritime. It's true that for security reasons the small boats were kept some distance from the Queen's review of the military vessels, but to participate in the event was still a genuine privilege, for Motor Boats Monthly and, on a more personal level, for all of the team.
Apart from our usual mix of boat tests, cruising guides, product tests and technical articles, there are also a couple of extras this month. On page 33 you should find a Southampton Boat Show scratchcard. Every single card entitles you to some kind of prize, and there's over £1m of goodies to be won. Good luck!
Also in this issue, you'll find a loose questionnaire asking what you think of MBM. Whether you've been a reader since day one, or this is your first issue, I'd love to hear your thoughts. This has always been the magazine by and for motorboaters, so your opinion really does count.
