Nancy Blackett, a boat once owned by Arthur Ransome, has returned home to Hillyards boatyard in Littlehampton, West Sussex, where she was built. Nancy was named after one of the main characters in Swallows and Amazons, the best seller that earned Ransome the money to fund his love of sailing.
Built in 1931 and weighing 7 tons, the Nancy Blackett is 33ft long, including her bowsprit and has an unusual Bermudan cutter rig. Below deck there are four berths.
Hillyards director Simon Cullingford, is delighted. 'It was a real treat to see Nancy back here in Littlehampton,' he said. 'We were one of the earliest builders of small sailing cruisers, and so many of our boats are still being enjoyed by their owners today.'
