Racing postponed at Skandia Cowes Week

With an average wind speed of less than four knots the Cowes race committee have once again had no choice but to postpone the day's racing. The signal flags currently drooping from the Royal Yacht Squadron platform are AP/AP, denoting that there will be at least a 50 minute warning to the fleets before racing can commence.

The forecast for the day follows the same pattern that has been established over the last few days - light north-westerlies backing into the south-west and strengthening as the sea breeze kicks in. The current projections from race meteorologist Chris Tibbs show a maximum wind speed of around 10 kts this afternoon, so it looks unlikely to be a day of long courses and adrenalin-packed near-misses.
