Sussex marina helps rescue swans

East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service (WRAS) has received a £1,000 donation from Sovereign Harbour to help with their work with the marina's birds.

The service visits Sovereign Harbour almost every week to help marina staff catch and treat swans that have been injured as a result of fishhooks and crashes. WRAS rescuers treat injured or ill swans on site initially, before working with local veterinary centres. More severe cases are transported to the National Swan Sanctuary in Shepperton, Surrey, for specialist treatment and care.

Trevor Weeks from the East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service, said: 'The Mute Swan is one of Britain's most beautiful birds, and because of their placid nature and trust towards humans they are more likely to encounter problems. Sovereign Harbour's support has been valuable in helping us to ensure we are there when the swans need us.'
