Round Britain tour for transplant survivor

Kidney transplant survivor Jacqui Dowding is planning to sail around Britain this summer to raise awareness for organ donation and transplantation, while helping the RNLI's Sea Safety campaign.

"It is important for people to realise that those who have had a transplant can live very full and normal lives for many years into the future." Jacqui explained.

Her work for the RNLI on the south coast is well known to many. She is a regular presenter at yacht clubs and RNLI roadshows, and has conducted more than 50 SEAchecks for the lifeboat services. Newhaven Lifeboat Sea Safety Officer Bill Walton commented: "Jacqui is one of the most active Sea Safety Advisors on the South coast and I'm proud to have her on my team."

Jacqui will leave Brighton on 16 May for Great Yarmouth in the first leg of her voyage, which will visit 30 ports from Orkney to Dublin, in a link up with local RNLI stations. Her boat Svanevit, a Hallberg Rassy Monsun 31, will be crewed by friends, RNLI crew members and sea safety volunteers.
