Collisions top insurance claims
Boat are more likely to hit submerged objects than they are to be stolen. Figures released by Saga Insurance show that 24 per cent of all marine insurance claims are as a result of a collision.

Theft from boats is the second most frequent reason for a claim, followed by claims resulting from collision with other boats. The average amount claimed as a result of a collision is £2, 419, while each theft claim averages £1,820.

30 per cent of all theft claims related to thefts while a boat was moored, and owners are advised to take steps to make life harder for thieves whenever a boat is left unattended.
