Amidst the doom and gloom surrounding the credit crunch there is evidence that UK sailing schools are seeing an increase in bookings for RYA sailing courses which some are attributing to redundancies in the city.

New figures from the Centre of Economics and Business Research predict that nearly 30,000 jobs will be slashed over the next few months and already major city banks and financial groups have slashed UK city jobs over the last few months.

Global Yacht Training, a UK RYA Sailing School, has actually seen a significant increase in people taking up sailing courses which lead to professional sailing qualifications in the last six months. Some of these bookings have come from people looking change direction in their careers and using their redundancy pay outs to invest in getting training to work in the expanding yachting industry. Global Yacht Training is expecting a significant increase in people taking up sailing courses in the next few months as more and more people take career breaks, or lose their current jobs.
