Defra rules in favour of sailors
After a three-year legal dispute, River Deben boat-owners have won the right to land at Ramsholt Dock free of charge. The landowner’s agent had claimed that the public could not land without permission. Suffolk County Council refused to uphold the boat-owners’ claim that they had always landed unhindered. An appeal was mounted by the author with Ramsholt harbour master George Collins, and funded by East Coast yachtsmen. Defra has now ruled against Suffolk County Council, to the effect that the landing hard is a public right of way.
