Timber fires on Sussex shores
Fires will blaze on a Sussex beach this month as the last of the timber washed ashore from a cargo ship is burnt. Tonnes of packaged timber were set adrift when the Ice Prince sank in January, and Eastbourne Borough Council has already removed and recycled most of the wood that floated onto its shores.

However certain parts of the beach at Cow Gap, to the east of Beachy Head, are too inaccessible to allow the timber to be safely removed. As a result the wood will be burnt in situ, and mariners and visitors are advised to avoid the area while the work is carried out.
