A week of monster trimarans

Pascal Bidegorry's new Banque Populaire V, the largest racing multihill ever built, emerged earlier this week from her build shed.

At 131ft (40-metres) long, Banque Populaire is the latest generation G-Class maxi-trimaran. In contrast, Franck Cammas' Groupama III is only 105ft long.

Ronan Lucas, Director of Team Banque Populaire added: "It has been two years since we started work on this project and we now have a beautiful boat on the water that will break records."

Meanwhile Americas Cup team BMW Oracle has launched its monster 90ft by 90ft trimaran in Anacortes. However, due to the ongoing legal battle that has blighted the cup, it may never take part in an AC race.
