Weather puts Class IIIC championships under threat

High winds and severe sea conditions forced the Guernsey Powerboat Club to cancel the first heat of this year's World Class IIIC Offshore powerboat championships on Thursday.

Eighteen entries representing five nations have arrived in the island but continuing high winds provide a gloomy outlook that the event will go ahead. If the weather moderates the current plan is to hold the first of three heats tomorrow (Saturday) while a window in the weather could provide an opportunity to stage the final heats on Sunday. However if conditions persist, then the championship could be abandoned completely and a future date and possible new venue announced later.
