Westerly 33 Centre Cockpit, Fin Keeled Ketch 1979             £28,500.

LOA 33ft 3ins (10.1m), LWL 28ft 4ins(8.6m), Beam 11ft 2ins (3.35m), Draft 5ft 11ins (1.85m). 

A  well proven, Laurent Giles designed popular, comfortable GRP cruising yacht.  Located convenient to Athens airport Greece.  Ready and equipped for cruising the Greek islands and the Med without the long haul of getting there. It has a good sea kindly performance with comfortable accommodation.  A strong safe stiff sailing boat with good stability in heavy weather.  Easily crewed single handed or with a crew of two.   The cruising speed is 6 knots with a maximum of 7.5 knots.  It has Part 1 UK registration. 

It has been much upgraded for the Med and quiet anchorage cruising.  It has a new Vetus 42 hp engine, 5 - 105 AH batteries with Solar panels, wind generator, mains and engine charging.  LED lighting.  Recent osmosis treatment, bimini, bunk cushions, upholstery and head-linings all in good condition.  A 100 lit black water tank is fitted emptied by pump or deck extraction. A compressor driven fridge with freezer fitted.  A Raymarine radar and auto pilot and a Lofrans 1000 W anchor windlass.  Dinghy and outboard and a folding bicycle. 

In present ownership for 20 years, during which time we have cruised Shetland, Norway and the Baltic and across the Med to Turkey, the Black Sea and Cyprus. 

Galley Equipment

Galley.  Stainless steel basin with pumped hot and cold water.  2 drawers and a locker under for cutlery, pots and pans and crockery in racks over.  2 burner gimballed gas cooker with oven (no grill).  A gas alarm is fitted.  Single electric hotplate. Locker behind the cooker for ingredients.  Surrounding surfaces tiled and metal covered for fire protection. A compressor driven refrigerator keeps the food and beer cool and the fitted freezer keeps sufficient fish and meat fresh for supper to last two for about a week. All well lit with concealed strip LED lighting.  Cupboard with drawers and worktop over.  Cook's restraining strap for rough conditions.  Large separate electric grill.  Gash-bin under companionway steps.  Fire Blanket. 

Navigation Systems

Navigation.  Cockpit instruments - log, wind and depth by Nasa.  Bulkhead compass.  Raymarine SPX-5, wheel mounted autopilot on the 30 inch wheel.    Full size chart table with navigator's seat and fitted equipment over.   Furuno GPS, with waypoint data fed to the autopilot instrument in the cockpit and to the  Raymarine  'Pathfinder' flat screen radar.  Fixed ICOM DSC VHF, also with GPS connected, and with spare emergency antenna.  ICOM rechargeable hand held VHF.   A large selection of Mediterranean charts and pilot books.  Navigation lights.  Stock of courtesy and code flags. 

Mechanical Equipment

Engine. - Vetus 42hp diesel, new (2012), 500hrs.  Excellent all round servicing access both from under the cockpit floor and from the saloon.  Gear change and throttle is by a Vetus lever control.  Shaft drive to 3 bladed bronze propeller fitted with a 'Stripper' rope cutter.  New (2018) 35gal (150lit) diesel tank with level gauge fitted.  The engine has been regularly serviced.   

Water system.  45gal (200lit) stainless steel tank with level gauge fitted ,  Pumped flow through a filter to galley and heads basins.  Hot water from a calorifier heated by the engine cooling water or a 220volt  immersion heater. 

Electrics.  All 12 volt cabin lights are LED.  5 x 105 amp hour 12 volt batteries located under the table and the navigators seat.  These are charged by 3 Solar panels (total 240 watt), an 'Air Breeze' high output wind generator, and the engine alternator - each with charge controllers, and a 220 volt smart battery charger.  Deck and navigation lights.  Shore supply is protected by an RCD earth trip and there are power outlets in each cabin.  A 12v - 220v inverter for mobile phone etc charging when on passage.   

Additional Equipment

Safety.  4 foam fire extinguishers, gas alarm, Galley fire blanket, 2 lifebelts, 4 life jackets, 1 Epirb / plb, DSC VHF,  emergency rope ladder, 50m towing line.  Mizzen mast mounted 'Firdell' radar reflector.  Webbing Jack Stays along both side decks.  4man RORC valise life raft (requires servicing).  3 bilge pumps (2 shared)    

Dingy,  A 2.3m inflatable dinghy on davits with 4hp Yamaha outboard. 

Miscellaneous  A 220volt electric fan heater, a mains electric vacuum cleaner, crockery and cutlery as available and a folding bicycle  are included. 

Deck & Hull Equipment

Deck and Hull.  The deck is painted with white non-slip paint which reflects the heat and keeps the saloon cooler.   Anchors - CQR 15kg bow anchor with 75m of 8mm chain, Lofrans Kobra 12v 1000w windlass with dual controls, at the deck and the cockpit.  Second bow 15kg Fishermans anchor with 50m anchorplait rope.  A Fortress FX 16 aluminium alloy stern anchor with 5m chain and 40m rope.  2 rigging wire safety lines around the boat.  Bow, stern and mid-ships mooring cleats.  Boat hook.  100m floating rope on a drum mounted, on the pushpit for tying back in an anchorage.  Webbing Jack Stays along both side decks.  Transom mounted bathing ladder.  5 gallon reserve water can.  Combined fender board / gangplank.   In 2013 the hull received a complete Osmosis treatment.  The gelcoat was mechanically stripped off, the boat was dried out for 4 months and 14 coats of International 'Gelcoat Plus' epoxy applied.  The boat has been hauled out every winter and every summer to keep the hull dry.   

Sails and Canvas.  Well used genoa (requires UV strip), with roller furling, and whisker pole.  Slab reefed battened mainsail with lazy jacks and zipped boom bag in good condition.  Battened mizzen sail in good condition with cover. Control lines led back to cockpit.  2 genoa sheet winches 2 auxiliary winches and 1 mainsail winch for the halyard and control lines, all in the cockpit.  The genoa halyard winch is on the mast.   Bimini in good condition (2013) with side panels.  The spray hood is in good condition  with new windows (2017).    



Can sleep 7. 

Forward Cabin. Vee double bunk with 7 inch double foam cushions.  2 large storage shelves, 2 under bunk lockers, large ceiling hatch with blind, 2 port holes, a low profile ventilator and 2 strip lights.  Hanging clothes cupboard with hooks and rail.  Access to chain locker.  Water tank under. 

Heads.  Stainless steel basin with tap / shower unit and pumped hot and cold water.  Large mirror with concealed  strip light, 2 lockers, and first aid cabinet.  Shower tray with 12 volt electric  pumped outlet which doubles as a bilge pump.  Lavac / Henderson toilet with hand pumped flush to either sea or black water tank.  This also doubles as a bilge pump.  A port hole and a low profile  ventilator.  Stowage place for cockpit table. 

Passageway.  Hanging clothes cupboard with hooks and rail and full length wardrobe mirror. 

Saloon.  Double (pull-out) bunk to port and a  short bunk to starboard, which, with a trotter locker, could be made to full length.  New cushions and upholstery with covers.   4 cabin side lockers and 6 under bunk lockers.  Bedding storage behind the seat backs and removable lee boards.  Bookshelf, 5 side lights and an overhead strip light.    Dining table for 6 people with drinks locker incorporated.  4 cabin side windows with curtains and ample hand rails for safety in a rough sea.  Space for stereo radio/cd player.  2 loudspeakers fitted. 

Aft cabin.  Access from the cockpit.  Sleeps two on full length bunks with new cushions. 2 lockers over and 1 locker under each bunk. 2 small shelves with space for a radio.  2 portholes.  2 cabin lights and 2 reading lights.   Access to steering gear under. 

Cockpit.  Port and Starboard cavernous lockers containing ropes and fenders, with non slip painted tops and fitted cushions.  Coaming mounted manual bilge pump.  Teak grid floor with engine room below.  Stowable cockpit table on 'Lagun' swivelling support (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAjLjp9hG_E).  This takes the electric  grill on which you can prepare steaks, grilled garlic prawns or a full English breakfast for al-fresco dining.  In addition, the starboard locker contains the autopilot computer, sealed 2 gas canister locker draining overboard and bicycle storage.  Water pump, filter and hot water calorifier under.  The port locker contains diesel tank, black water tank, no. 5 battery, Erberspacher 3 outlet diesel space heater (not connected) and a wet gear hanging rail.
