I suspect that many of us collect Mariner's Library volumes.

I'd bought this one some time ago and just took it down - was hooked immediately!

The writer was Commodore of Cunard in WW2, hence the "K", but this book describes his early experiences as an indentured apprentice, rising to Second Officer, aboard British square rigged ships in the 1890's.

Extremely well written and very vivid; full of interesting detail.

Just to let you know in case you were unaware that Bissett wrote three volumes in this series. 'Sail Ho', 'Tramps and Ladies' and 'Commodore'. They are all eminently readable.

Thanks. I did not know that. Must hunt down the others.

Good Luck. It took me two years to find the third volume after I had read Sail Ho. I'm still trying to get hold of a copy of Tramps and Ladies.
