View Full Version : POOLE AT CHRISTMAS???
Any one interested in pint and a curry?
I might even have a boat this year... NAH!
Keep me posted - it's easy from here to Sandbanks, then turn Right to WHERE/WHEN?
seem to have 6l of mulled wine left from last year.........clearly have to find a use for it!
sounds good to me.
i think Geoff's up for it too.
what about the rest of ya scurvy dogs???
opps... nearly went into pirate mode.
that would never do.
possibly not the Osborne this year... iv'e got this far and i'm not rushing the finish!.. so might rinse the S20 out and use her for the weekend.
anyway, it'd be nice to meet up over a mince pie again.
have only vague recollections of curry.....?????????
do remember leaving Col and co in Dolphin one Dec to head back Rockley at about 0200h wind, rain etc and BarryH following close behind (apparantly to keep my running light in view!) HOO's better half and Vicky patiently trying to persude us that a cab would be a better idea....... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
ah those Poole meets..........
in those days i was married... SWMBO wouldn't have let me stay out that late!
i think we were staying at the travel inn round the corner.
if things go right, the Osborne might be back in the water... how i look forward to that!
in any case, it'd be great to have the chance to meet up with all the old crew again. there's some local (ish) people that have expressed an interest before.. if this was a regular occurance, i'm sure we'd all benefit.
i guess as people see this post, there may be an increase in interest.. we'll have to see what happens... suffice to say with longer to consider options... and a lot more time on my hands to make arrangements, we could make a decent meet happen.
If you get the Osborne on the water, I'll crew. I don't have whole weekends to myself anymore, so bringing Iditarod round for the weekend is not a luxury I have very often. One night is easier to negotiate.
if i don't have the Osborne i'll have a beat to death sunseeker.... but i'm determined to have something in the water this time!
I could be tempted........... oh go on then twist my arm
cool. you about this weekend?
i'm fitting widows now.
if you're about i'll make that coffee i promised you last week.
date to be arranged....
watch this space.
YEP. I'm up for it. Might even stay on board this year, if I can figure out how this reverse cycle air con works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
it will have a switch somewhere...........just turn it on!
you completed yet?
Yeh, done that, but it goes whirr, whirr, buzz buzz, whooosh, whooosh. Was that all about?
Your last point, within the next couple of days, hopefully.
offer still stands.
should be there saturday.
So when? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Looking at diary I guess it's got to be 9th or 16th. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
how's that suit everyone else?
what do you want to do... i can organise a local restaraunt, or go for the "tandoori nights suprise"
give me your thoughts..
16th Ok by me, looking foreward to it.
I guess the 'Tandoori Nights' have become a bit of a tradition, might be worth booking there.
sounds like a laugh, will ask Jim if he is up for it.
can't do the 16th....
shall we say the 9th?
i will book, but need to know rough numbers....
oops, me out. Taking the kids to see Cats in Oxford apparently
call me a probable............why not utilise the chinese ta on the quay - it's excellent food and no need to book! Everyone on Geoffs's new toy benefitting from the reverse cycle air con unit; just need to bring a fork!
i'm easy, just be nice to all get together again.
where's everyone else???

trying to work out how to get to Poole in December hopefully!
HOO and HOO2??????????
not seen/heard anything of them for ages.
i'll try some PM's see if that gets anyone going.
9th OK. Seemed to remember about 10 people having chinese on a Cabrio 220 at Cobbs!
ok... 9th it is.
i'll go and make some enquiries along the quay on wednesday/thursday night....
oh dear... another late one!
Thanks for the txt mssg earlier. Would like to come but prob by 4 wheel box rather than boat. Will speak to Vic.
mate... it doesn't matter if you turn up on a bike...
it'd be great to have a beer or seven with you.
i'll pm you with some other info.
It'll be very nice to return some of the hospitality you have shown me over the years. Won't be up to BA standard, of course /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I think it possible that Richard and I could come too. Unlikly that the boat will be back in the wtaer, but we can come by road.
Will watch for more details/times etc.
If Jim is not working we should be there, even got some spare beds for those who need somewhere to crash.
I'd better get a few beers in. Will have to leave the mulled wine to Duncan, though, far too advanced for me.
Looking forward to it Geoff.
currently trying to work a cunning flanker on this weekend........ as long as the weathers **** (as it has been for every Poole event since the (in) famous Wareham Quay Oct 2002) it should work...... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
Just two weeks to go. Who's coming along, made your minds up yet.
and ascociated partners...
i make that about 16... but possibly 20.
so do you want to meet saturday lunchtime at dolphin quay?
if so let me know if you'll bring a boat... and i'll phone HM to make sure there are berths available.
and if you know anyone else who'd like to be included... pm them and direct them here.
see you all soon.
That loooks good, Steve. I'll be there by boat, only 400yds to travel. Probably won't be down 'til late morning, be in Boat Haven by 2:00pm.
If we don't make the planned Channel hop, I'll ake Whitelighter into poole instead. Don't worry about eats, but there is plenty of room for a beer or two on board after.
ok, be nice to meet you if you can make it.
i'm going to be boatless again i'm affraid....
i won't have time now to get the small jobs done on the sunseeker.... 'kin weather!
but i do have quite an extensive folio of pictures of the real boat!
not sure about other half, lunchtime or come to think about it the boat............ /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
reasoably confident that I will be around for something to drink at some point - just building on that!
not sure about Chuggin' - think he may have boat issues but I hope they are resolved by then.
i think we have enough for a quorum.
see you there.
provided Marvin is back in the water (should be!!) We will be there, room for a few if people need beds.
weather is not looking great for those planning on coming by boat (unless you are staying in Poole Harbour of course!)
We don't usually go far 'cos weather not too hot (pun intended!!!), I think the first year we got as far as the harbour entrance, with Steve nearly capsizing Barry's boat. It was b..b..b..blommin cold.
Usually sit on boats blowing the froth off a few, downing Duncan's mulled wine and off for a curry in the evening. Not as boring as I make it sounds. I'll see if I tempt GC1 into coming. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
ahem, yes, but I am planning on coming by boat if I dont channel hop, otherwise I'll have nowhere to kip.
OK chaps, booked tandoori nights for 9:45 saturday 9th. booked for 20 of us, i can confirm final numbers on saturday afternoon.
if anyone has any probs with this.... wants to go elsewhere etc..... let me know asap and we can look at changing it.
Great, Steve, well done. I'll be there, but only one of me, last minute cancellation by daughter, seems she'd rather go to a panto with her mum, I dom't know!
Another thought, Steve. Need to book at Quay Boat Haven? Guess they're not too busy this time of year.
Don't know who's arriving by boat. I will be, only a few hundred yards to go. Expect to come through on 12:30 bridge lift, so will be on the quay soon after.
ok, i'll check availability tommorrow.
I am now about 9/4 against making it ( Coralls latest odds)
The unexpected can be a bugger...........
that's a shame on two counts.....
firstly (and most importantly) it would have been nice to see you again.
secondly, it now falls to A.N Other to organise the mulled wine!!!
BTW... launch party scoped for march next year.... you will be there... not a question.
best regards, steve.
yep - and I have 6 litres of it bottled up at home!
what will I do with it?
Now looking likely that we will be in Poole on Saturday night.
Any danger of joining in the curry?
yep, just give me a ring on 07833 983074... let me know either way for numbers.
due to the latest cock up with our boat it looks like we will not be back in the water on time, so far 2 weeks has run to 2 months and after the most recent inspection of the work done there is no end in sight!
oh dear, sorry to hear that.
well if you make it, you do.
there will be another in the summer..... my launch party!!!
take a note of my number on Jez's post/reply. let me know if you can/can't
I'd better get some more beer in /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
how did it go guys - sorry I couldn;t make it.
We all had a very pleasant afternoon and evening, the photo shows the main core aboard the good ship 'My Memory Maker'
There's Steve (Aztec) and Jacky, as well as Simon (Studgies) and Jim. I'm behind the camera.
We had a short visit from Julie (Powerskipper) with Alex. Julie spent most of the time in my engine bay, as she does /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Unfortunatley Col (Col) and Vicki couldn't make it in the end. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Finished up with usual curry in Tandoori nights. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
a good evening and a good curry was had by all!
that's gotta be a pic worthy of a caption!!!
'Hey, look, he's taking a stupid photo to put on the forum'
Hi I am a new to this site, Beer, Curry and boats, sounds fun can anyone join in. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
check the dates!!!!
Can't make the 9th but i'll be there between xmas and new year if anything is happening.
This is quite an old thread now... just popped in to see if it was still running.
If there are local boaties that have an incling for a social let me know via PM....
i'm usually up for a beer or curry.
in the old days we had much fun getting together.
let me know, steve.
Good to hear from you again, Steve. You know I'm always up for a beer and curry. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
