Apologies for cross-posting from Liveaboard forum first of all.

I've plenty of seatime on the lumpy stuff, but none on river/canals !

It looks as if I'll be picking up a longish contract in Stockley Park, and am considering the purchase of a 45 ft narrowboat as I can't stand the peripatetic, isolated life of a hotel, and want to be near proper yuman beans.

I can't bring my sailing boat up, as the beam and draft (13ft x 5ft) are too much for the convenient marinas (unless anyone knows of a mooring / berth available ?).

What are the snags to living 3/4 nights a week on board in the Chertsey / West Drayton area please, and then zipping back to the farm ? And any specific tips on living on a reasonably well appointed narrowboat in a marina (e.g. bicycle essential for forays to pub, what sort of security needed, risks of marina being flooded, etc.) Or even do I get a mobo instead ?

Finally, any views on depreciation over a 6 to 12 month period ?

thanks in anticipation

Grand Union Canal all around that area as well as Thames quite close by:
A couple of websites to get you started:

Also send a PM to MikeGates on this forum who will tell you all about possibilities at Penton Hook Marina near Staines.
