I'd posted this log entry on our site some weeks ago but thought I should share it as it may help others. It might help if you are in a country with cheap labour but I just wanted to show off our bargain of the month! Take a read of this log entry (http://www.followtheboat.com/log/esper/2007/002.asp) (skip the first paragraph and start at "Perhaps our biggest job yet was the installation of the Navtex") about how we got this aerial mount made......for 15!

PS: It should be noted that we write our log for our non-sailing friends, hence the sometimes simple language and obvious explanations used!

My aerial works fine lying on the chart table, although the 100ft of cable obscures the charts.

I would have made it myself for nothing but I couldn't fit the lathe and welding equipment in the lazarette.

Cheapest ever?.
No. My gps aerial is mounted on top of 3 ft of broomstick, wired to the pushpit. The navtex is taped to the stick. Im not sure how much tape I used, about ten inches, I suppose.

We've got a compass and some funny big bits of paper that look like maps. Does that count?

Nope! No welding equipment alone, would have you thrown out of most "Liveaboard" clubs I'm a member of! But no lathe is just.....well, unforgiveable!

PS.
wot's a compass?
