Hi. Yes 18p would be the going rate. My father in law is a farmer and he pays 19-20p per litre. I'm thinking of getting a small water bowser, filling it with his diesel and trailing it down to Devon with me! Alternatively one could get to know a local farmer whose land comes down to the waters edge.

Yes 18p per litre, most plant hire companies have a mobile tanker to refuel Plant machines, cannot take a twenty tonne excavator down the road to the garage for a tank full.

Have you tried getting in touch with small local oil companies. Most will offer to meet you on the quay side and fill your boat at approx 22p per litre. I boat in North Wales and frequently visit other areas. My local company Crown Oil in Bury frequently offer to meet me at different points around the country anf give me a good filling up at 22p. They do this by way of reciprical agreements with other smaller oil companies up and down the country. If your stuck give them a call.

There is, or was, a company director of a very well known marine engine company based near Brighton who had his power boat filled direct from the Central Heating Oil tanker. When I enquired, as we were moored next to him at the time, he said it was all the same, generally, and he used nothing but and saved quite a few bob on each fill up.

Have since come across many examples of the same.

Phil,
Any idea what they charge for it. I've since discovered that the filling station in Kingsbridge also sell it at a pump. Cost was 39.8p per litre last month.

Haven't bought any there for almost thre years, at which time they had just put the price up for the first time in seven years! It was in the region of 28p a litre then and had gone up from 19p.

Here in Spain it's 78cents a litre and I understand in France its 94 cents making it some 15p to 29p a litre more expensive on the continent.

LIke for like, duty free diesel here in Spain is only 10p a litre, but of course it's only for commercial use, a great pity!
