View Full Version : Teal Boats.
Would you be able to give me the address/ phone number of the company who make, or have made Teal boats . Would you als know the maximum outboard engine size that you can fit to the transom of a Teal ,18 feet long Thank you very much , David.
They went out of business about twenty years ago.
Not sure of maximum but Nationwide boatsales have one that has been used with a 30 hp. Probably 50hp would be about a safe maximum
Teal boats were built in the Manchester area from around 1968 or so, to the late 80's. Originally by Fred Child, then his sons. The original range included the Clipper and Convertible, 20 and 22 feet long respectively. The later range was revamped to include the 18 and a 16 footer, both simulated clinked hull and medium vee. The 18 was the better balanced, and available as a cruiser (very pretty) and a sports cuddy(very ugly). Hulls were rated to 80hp outboard. My 18 cruiser had 2x 40 Mercurys,(a tight fit in the engine well) was built from a shell and could tow two skiers with five in the boat. I lost it in a fire whilst in storage unfortunately. I then bought a Sport version and fitted a 115 Merc, but it was never as good as the earlier boat. Moulding finish of the later boats could have been better, but as for style, they could still hold their own place today.
