A splendid start to the season then.
Now, if the weather would just perk up a bit...

I don't really do beer, but I had been led to believe, by people who do, that the Ship Inn was a free house and already had a very good selection of draught ales. So is the Adnams takeover a good thing?
If it means Broadside is on tap then yes. At least I think thats an Adnam's beer.

Indeed it is... and a fine pint it is too!
It is - featured once at Fox's.
Drove home (I think) thanks - in no small part - to cruise control. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Butt was disappointing last time I was there - this can only be a good thing surely

I agree, although the beer was ok, the watery cod had obviously been unfrozen. It used to serve some of the best fish and chips on the east coast.
The Ship at Levington was absolutely outstanding last September. Seafood was indescribably good almost as good if not comparable with anything I have had in France. And the night was dark and miserable and it was a long walk across the saltings from SYC but well and truly worth it. I will be sorry if the standard there goes down.
Butt has been overpriced and disappointing for some time now. Hopefully Adnams will improve things.

good news about the Maybush too, I was underwhelmed on my only visit
So is it that Adnams bought out Deben Inns Group? In that case there is also the Fox, The Plough and Sail at Snape and the Wilford Bridge in Melton - all of which have never really had a great reputation and have been in dire need of some new blood for some time now.
Where is the Maybush? Know where the other 2 are
Hi Folks
Took the family to The Butt for a nosebag, quality reasonable for the money, Adnams pubs often aim for upper end nosh , beer good though.
Rob
This bloke from Kent thinks it's at Waldringfield, right by the river, just to prove we do go that way from time to time....

as Cantata says, Waldringfield on the Deben.
If you'd prefer a picture of the pub rather than one of a fat bloke rowing, here it is:
