Thus far a bit disappointed with eateries in Cowes.

Have I missed something good?

Well it's not a complete desert

Muray's seafood just upstream from the Cat terminal
the first indian op and donstream from cat terminal is not that bad
else you just gotta get into the R Corinthian or London but that's not so easy

I've always found the Pier View very reasonable.

The Thai Restaurant, the Baan Thai, is good as is the Bahar Balti Indian Restaurant. The Restaurant Amadeus (Cafe Mozart by day) is also good. Toninos, the Italian, has been there for years and is OK. Opposite it is Mojacs which is nice. Why not try The ISC for the best view in Cowes? However, probably the best thing to do is take a taxi to Newport and go to Burrs where Princess Anne was seen recently. Word on the street is that Ellen Macarthurs PR woman has just bought The Alamo so maybe expect 'Ellens' soon......

We have an wide taste in resturants but generally kid freindly lunchtime places are of imminent interest.

The best kid friendly lunchtime places are : The back bar of The Anchor, the ISC, The Globe or try Rawlings Hotel which has an outside pool.

I quite like 'The Union' pub which is right at the (north) end of the High Street just up from the dreaded VAT offices.
The food is honest fare and the beer is always very good. The staff are extremely friendly and obliging and the guv'nor or his wife are always present to maintain standards.

The Union - They weren't too friendly when I ordered food at 9.15 on Saturday night (kitchens close at 9.30). Granted there were 14 of us but this is not the first time it has happened - I have been turned away before with an order for 8 people at 9.20pm. As a business man myself I know it is suicide to turn away good business. I wouldn't be surprised if they will soon be moaning about how poor business is and how hard it is to make a good living!
However, I agree, it is the best pub in town with the best food and beer.

The landlord owns loads of property in Cowes and has just bought an estate in France so I guess business is doing OK. With or without a few yachtie dinners.

Lunchtime, not much in the way of restaurants, mostly pubs. If you fancy the walk along the front to the Gurnard end of the Esplanade, the Woodvale is pretty good and accomodates children. Just about everywhere else is mentioned. The Union is good but definitely not child friendly, he even has a sign on the door.

If you walk up the hill (towards the chain ferry) there' the Duke of York which serves good grub. I often take my 14 year old nephew up there and he eats for England.

Good ale (try the Fuddledeedum) and there's an enormous gaff from Brittania running through both bars, with a separate dining area. Friendly too, and not as crowded as the Anchor.

For evenings I love the Baan Thai which is a family run business, or the ISC.

The landlord sold that spar from Brittania at auction recently for about £5000 I think. By the way, how many pints had you had when you read the name of the beer? I think you'll find it was Fuggledeedum...
