Teak decks

I am thinking of putting a Teak deck where once there was a canvas covering, I have heard that there are companies which pre-cut a deck using your line drawings as a template, does anyone know of any companies which specialise in this field?

You mean that you prefer sleeping in a cold water shower to sleeping udner a nice dry deck? Well, it takes all sorts, but I would replace a canvassed deck on a boat such as yours which has longish ends and is flexible with either new canvas or glass cloth in epoxy over plywood.

I have decided to retain the original canvas deck, it was always my aim to get her back to as near original as possible, I recently got a back copy of CB which has an article of Mystery of Meon, in the article she has teak decks, after mulling over it for a while I have decided to keep Mystico as she was when Knew.

Delighted to hear it. Now I must tell a take against myself. When I bought Mirelle, 17 years ago, she had laid teak decks and a canvassed coachroof. The canvas was "tired" so I foolishly renewed it with frech canvas. I had a purist approach - all traditional materials - at that point, I seem to recall. Great fun using lots of old paint and squidging it around. I was dead chuffed with the result. ..

Right now, even as I type this, the coachroof is being done again, professionally, with glass cloth and epoxy over plywood, which is what I should have done to being with, as the canvas only lasted 16 years. It is pefectly durable PROVIDED nobody drops pointed things on it!

Meanwhile the laid teak decks, which leaked like anything, despite three different attempts at caulking them, got six coats of Coelan and two of deck paint, six years ago; they now look like a canvassed deck and the cabin is as dry as a bone. Magic!

And in my opinion the boat looks much smarter!

A few years ago I rebuilt an Alfred Milne one rater to the original specs. Part of that was a complete re-deck using larch. I then canvased over the nice new deck. But the 'canvas' I used was woven roving (from Glassplies) and it was stuck on with epoxy resin. Then it was painted. I never had any problems with the deck for the several years I sailed her.
