Winch servicing

I have a couple of Lewmar 40s manufactured in 1978. I've done the easy bit - removed the circlips and drums.

How do I proceed from here? I have heard an ugly rumour that they must be removed from the boat as the shaft is removed downwards.

Any advice gratefully received.

Andy, Lewmar do a good little booklet on servicing their winches. If your is a very early model I expect Lewmar would send you additional instructions regarding servicintg it. Goodluck, BarryD
