View Full Version : transporting boats
How can i move a 32' , 8 ton fin keel yacht from ipswich to cardiff. Does anyone know of a reasonable haulage firm?
Sail it or there used to be a good firm in Ipswich i think it was Debenage or something similar they used to specialise in boat transport
I used Sealand to move from Conwy to Hull
£400
They were excellent. Went out of their way to help as much as possible.
You can find them on www.btx.co.uk/
As its Ipswich you want to contact - PORT TO PORT, tel.01243 511 381.
They are based in Chichester, but spend alot of time around the Ipswich area because of their base there and the Fairline factory.
I recently had a boat transported from clacton to kent and used debbage yachting who are in ipswich. The main reason i used them they did not need a crane to unload my 31' boat and saving me about 200 pounds .
One further piece of advice, also from personal experience. If you can offer a haulier some flexibility on timing so that your order can be treated as a "backhaul" so eliminating empty running for his rig, you will get a worthwhile discount.
No doubt you also have it in mind to be absolutely sure your chosen haulier is familiar with this work - some rigs have strict size and weight limits - and that he has insurance! And only pay on safe receipt of the goods!

Andy, I used Owens of Llanelli, to bring my 30ft 5 .5 ton Westerly from Greenoch to Cardiff, the charge was £450.00 for a backhaul, I did have to use a crane to lift off, but they were good on time and very polite, friendly, insured and have quite a bit of experience. Tel me on 01443 208842 if you require details Clive.
you could also check with T D Williams of cross hands there in the book you might catch one on a return from france. could be cheapest?
