On my boat I have a NASA target echo sounder. I found last yuaer when I was trying to use it once switched on it would read up the scale to about 90 then back down to 25 or so, never settling down to a definate reading. Is the thing dead ? and sould I replace with new one ( they seem to be quite cheap at present )? Or is it still repairable and if so how ? thanks for the help.

I had one of these on my boat when I bought her, but no instruction book. I have found by fiddling with the buttons you can adjust the reading and even set a depth alarm - just being March and I haven't done it since last October I can't remember how!

Worth a bit of trial and error before you replace it maybe?

Good Luck!

Sounds like a bad connection - I had same problem with transducer plug at back of sounder, or could be fluctuating power supply - mine still goes a bit wild when cranking the engine. I still got another problem in that it doesnt register less than 1 metre !! but I'm suspecting that it picks up interference from the keel.
