I am a L/A, and about to go cruising. I am replacing all my portlights at the moment. Is it worth having all of them being " opening portlights" or is that over kill??? There are 4 on each side of the boat (37 foot ).. As opening ones are more expense, i was just wondering if it was a waste of time....

If you are going to warmer climes definitely yes but don't forget the mosquito nets.

I agree with that. (Same size boat, but have only 3 side). The mosquito nets cut down the air flow quite a lot, by the way. Use the sort of spring wire used for net curtains to make a hoop, and stuff it into the hole.

I have eight per side, all opening, great for ventilation, I agree about the mozzie nets. But, if the boat is to be coded for charter, you may have problems with openeing ports. But there are ways around it!

If sailing to the med, or further south, definitely opening ones. All of them.
I still regret to have two of them fixed.

It's definitely worth the small extra price.

Have fun.
