I bought a 1922 38 foot cabin cruiser by the name of Memory around five years ago. When i bought it the previous owner informed me that it was once owned by Sir Donald Campbell. It has also been pointed out to me by some one on the river who recognised it. i was hoping to trace the history of the owners and find out whether this was true or not, but I am not sure where to start. I know the boats name has changed once or twice since built and has also been named Daffy. If nobody knows anything personally about the boat I was hoping someone might point me in the direction of how to chase the history of a boat. All information will be appreciated.

Is she Lloyds registered? If so, you could look back through previous years of the register to trace her owners, if the documentation has been kept up to date, might be worth a look back in any case. I dont think SSR existed in 1922.

I know that Southampton central library in the reference section has a lot of copies of the old lloyds register, I tihnk some are Archived and would need special arrangments with the library to view.

Hope this helps.

Could try Assoc'n of Dunkirk Little Ships.
They have an archivist, and even if not a Dunkirk boat, may be able to help with alternative avenues.

Search under ADLS (possibly www.adls.co.uk)
