Well, been gone & dunnit (a well known firm of accountants). Retired at the end of April, sailed over to 'Blighty' for some warranty work at Thornham-Sur-Mud then a shake-down cruise around the Solent/Sarf-coast for a week or so. Back to Guernland for a final jab (ouch) then South to the Sun. Most things seem to work (SSB, Sat phone etc). Interesting to find out how often I can access free WIFI on my travels but I have to say that the satphone has revolutionised keeping in touch via email and the international SIM card is great. Completely different to 13 years ago when keeping in touch consisted of finding a phone box that took credit cards & sending post cards! Hope to run into (NOT literally) some forumites on my travels Pete PS: Did I tell you I'd just retired and am off to the caribbean?

Congratulations. You've beaten me to it by 11 days. What's the schedule? (or don't you have one now you've retired)
If you make it to the BVI pretty much anytime after June or St Lucia November, December time look me up and I'll buy you something with rum in it.

Hi Mike, Schedule at the moment is Canaries by mid- September. Atlantic crossing commencing 2nd Jan 09 (subject to the usual but I had to pick a date for the crew to book flights etc). Bound towards Barbados but probably won't get any further North than the saintes before heading for Tobago. Might go down to Guyana for the hurricane season. At the moment the plan is to transit Panama Canal Feb/march 10 and wind up in NZ for the cyclone season. Planning (such as it is) stops there at the moment, but I'm confident that 'the plan' might well change

I keep telling you to sort out this "taking a break" thing. You are going to become a professional cruiser.
Fairwinds Troutbridge.......see you along the way.

Definitely recommend the Saintes Pete. If you are getting that far then it's worth a quick look at Montserrat
