I am thinking of opening an account with MAILASAIL so that I can get email access and weather gribs while at sea. I have a satellite phone with a data kit.

I was using sailmail with a pactor modem, but thought it unreliable.

What are your experiences please?

Works very well. Used it a few years ago on the ARC and it was very reliable with my old Motorola 9500 + Data Kit + Iridium. Used it for email and GRIBs.

Got the set up. Works OK but a bit cumbersome in that you get the weather from the NOAA site. You have to send the request in the correct format otherwise you get nothing.

Some see the glass as half full, some see it as half empty. I see it as too damn small.

I have a method I set up to get GRIBs and weather without going through the web pages or using email. Uses httpget and other stuff like that for you techies to get grib files direct from http://www.globalmarinenet.net/grib.htm and fax images from NOAA. Much more efficient than emails. You are all welcome to the batch files and executables if you like.

We have the mailasail iridium set-up and data set, works well for wx at sea. It can be slow so you need to watch your airtime.

I used it to download grib/us data no problem when crossing Biscay last year.

I'd recomend it as it does just what it says on the box.
