I agree about the wash. Appears to be present all the time. Would only consider a brief stop there and would definately not stay overnight. I don't think the local pubs are up to much anyway. I would rather pay my money and go into Shotley as I think the bar in the marina is better than those in most marinas. Paul

Yes, I rather like Shotley too, mostly thanks to the Shipwrecked bar - have had excellent food and beer, and charming service, every time I've been there without fail.

To judge by the Harwich Haven Authority annual lunch, wot I have just come back from by pilot launch, not a mode of transport that I usually enjoy, and which has put me in a very good humour, so this may not be a wholly typical example, the new owners can do quite a good job. I fancy they also own "Le Talbooth". There were some complaints amongst the local luminaries (Chief Constable, District Council chairpersons, trucking company owners, etc) that it was a bit "Nouveau" and "Minimalist", but the food got eaten. Who says there is no such thing as a free lunch?

It was so full of fishing boats that the pilot boat had to shove her bows in to let the Great and the Good ashore!

The piers ok for food, but the Three Anchours a short walk away is better ! BUT halfpenny pier is a total waste trying to moor, supposed to be for visiting yachts but IS always full of local fishing boats. the haven authority don't care thats why most visitors pass Harwich
