**DONOTDELETE**

In light of the accelerating move of sea going motor boat 'New' buyers away from 2-stroke and old diesels, towards quieter and environmentally friendly 4-stroke and Catalysed 'Clean' Diesels, what is the RYA and IPC Media, doing to sell in the cleaner image of New Motor Boating to the Yachting fraternity, Government and Harbour Authorities, who continue to label ALL Motor Boats as dirty and noisy.
With the RYA and the Marine Industry already working on criticised Safety Aspects of Motor Boating - selling this 'Cleaner' message also, will go a long way towards tackling the other part of the criticism from sail and traditionalist sea users.
It is, by the way, interesting to note that a modern unleaded fed 115hp 4-stroke outboard used for a 10 mile trip, in most circumstances is both quieter and cleaner than a 2 stroke 9.9hp auxiliary or non-cat old inboard diesel used cold for only 2 miles to manouvre an average 26ft yacht!

Phil,
Rod is busy trying to answer another five questions at the moment but I think it's fair to say that our mags are not particularly selling the notion that motorboats are getting cleaner; if anything our concentration thus far has been on understanding the technical implications of new and future legislation and also of examining the potential or otherwise for alternative fuels.
I'm listening obliquely to a conversation here and it sounds as though the RYA has been looking at such things as bio diesel and gas; I think we all know it's coming and you are right that there is a great deal to be done in the field of education regarding motorboats, how they are developing and what they are capable of.
