OK, You've caught me in an absolutely top mood. Why? Loads of reasons really. Please permit me to show off! Today is my birthday and Bev's bought me tickets to see "The Quo" at Cafartha Castle in Merthyr. Can't blummin wait! AND she's taking me on a week's trip to Warsaw where the beer is oh so cheap! AND she bought me a CD I've wanted for ages. It's Handel's Messiah. Not very "rock and roll I know - but I've wanted it for ages. AND I've got today off! AND last weekend, I got a medal.
Seriously. I was really lucky and honoured to be awarded the Order of St John and was presented it at Brecon Cathedral. It was a brilliant day. My parents came down for the event too and we met in Brecon, as they had to make that horror drive from North Wales to the South. (Welsh forumites will know exactly what a horrible drive that is!)
I had to wear my best uniform as I was representing work. I never knew they could shrink in the wardrobe. Only my tie fits properly!
Bev bought a new hat and we all had a jolly spiffing good time.

We stayed in the Castle Hotel, but it was a bit dear at £100 per night and a round of three drinks costing over £10. Bev says that I’m a tightwad. Maybe she’s right.
So what's this got to do with boating? Nothing! My alternators still in for repair and as long as I get in time for the Bristol Harbour Festival, I don't care. Since I can't go boating, I've got no boaty stories.
I hope this weather picks up soon. It's depressing.
Take care all,
Lizzy D

Congratulations Mike.
I dragged an old kitbag out of the loft recently that had my old army reservists kit in. Only thing that hadnt "shrunk" was the boots.

Well done sir (and madam).
Delighted to hear that you had a Good Time, and enjoyed yourselves.
Also, very well done on the St John's Medal. My Godmother ended up as a Commander of the Order after umpteen years in the organisation, and I know how hard she worked with training and recruitment (including dragooning me in as a volunteer First Aider for a number of years). It's a splendid bunch of people, and getting a gong shows you are recognised as one of the best.
PS. Like your good lady's hat. V smart !
