Smaller Riva launches
      #928141 - 18/01/2006 12:11

Always fancied one of these, being a little more affordable than the larger Riva launches.

Does anyone have any do's and don'ts for a boat like this?

The model I am considering is the SuperFlorida (20ft and 1970).

I dont know much about them, think they are mostly fitted with big petrol V8's in which case assume running cost will be quite high.

You'd need to be certain it would cope with the area you intend to use it, they were I guess primarily intended for use on lakes.

As with all old boats condition is king.

Have a look at the Riva club GB website if you've not already.

Maybe join CMBA?

Thanks.
Have now been on to Riva club GB.
Nice bunch and lot's of useful information.
Fascinating history on Carlo Riva.
Apparently a Riva Aquarama came 2nd overall and 1st in class in the London to Monte Carlo race back in the 70's so obviously the larger ones are quite capable sea boats! I would however agree that lakes are the preferred siting, especially for the smaller ones.

You are spot on with the engine. Chris Craft V8 185 hp in 20ft mahogany laminate launch. Original top speed 40 knots. Not bad for a 60's design. 1964 not 1970's as stated originally. Photos indicate near perfect condition.

Actual boat is on Lake Garda, N Italy. Probably ideal location.
