Unfortunately I can't make the Ostende trip (work!!!) but was just wondering if I could would I need an ICC. didn't notice it on Guapa's excellent "lonely Planet" guide. Has anyone ever been asked for it?

Nope.... you only need an ICC if your country of registration requires one....
And the UK doesn't.....
(There is an argument for still having an ICC for countries that are less happy with this correct interpretation of the law... but rest assured Belgium isn't one of those countries!)

Needed when you wish to charter a boat......
If you join something like the Roach Sailing Association, they have organised mass ICCs before.

Blast! I just spent a load of money getting mine updated. I have it on good authority, someone I know, but will not name, was challenged and asked to show his ICC. Since he hasn't got one, he showed them his UK driving licence. Apparently the authorities were satisfied.
