I've also noticed this if someone has done (what could be) a copy and paste from Word or suchlike.

Philip

Then it could be my fault. I tend to use Word as a spell checker. Sorry,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Long URL [Re: snowleopard]
      #422241 - 30/10/2003 10:54

If you use the standard URL tags and post a long URL it adopts the URL as its name, without line breaks, and so forces the table out wide. The answer with long URLs is to use the tag where you can give it a name.

(URL=http://www.myincrediblylongURL.com) Description here(/url)

Replace parenthesis with square brackets to make it work.

If you cannot be bothered with the slightly more complicated form of the URL tag you can keep everything a bit shorter on cross references to other posts by dropping the http:// (the forum software adds that) and everything after the post number. Eg:

www.ybw.com/cgi-bin/forums/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=mby&Number=420559

Have fixed the post in question.

Kim

After reading Kim's post, I will stand corrected and realise it probably is not the fault of Word.

Philip

No, you are correct [Re: philip_stevens]

No, sorry you are also right. Under certain circumstances a document pasted straight in from Word can force the table wide as well. Sorry, should have made that clear.

Easy way round it is to save the document as plain text, close and reopen the file and paste from that, or write offline using tools such as Notepad and the like.

Kim,
many thanks for your explanation. I feel better now. I had a suspicion that Word stretched the page.

Philip

Re: Long URL [Re: kimhollamby]

Just realised that my post caused the problem

Usually use the [url=]

Simply forgot on this occassion.

This is all too difficult for most folks Kim. The use of user pics, smilies, url and pic links is only available to 'super users' and others who use similar forums regularly. The typical beginner has huge problems downsizing a user pic and locating it somewhere it can be hosted.
We (you) could make this much easier?
