I was asked this evening by PM how to record Realplayer files from the BBC Radio internet site, which plays tracks of shows from the internet, but you can’t record them. So how do you do it?
You'll need a reasonable amount of experience to do this, otherwise ask a 15year old to help you! <g>
Rm recorder can be used to decipher actual url as shown below, even though only on 2 minute trial time http://dl.filekicker.com/send/file/145062-N8IK/WMRsetup.exe
So for instance if you go to this page http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/bringsyou/robbiewilliams/1.shtml and want to download the following BBC radio tracks http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/media/051020_robbie.ram and http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/media/051020_robbieqa.ram
1st stage
put both of those urls into WMR and get the following urls.
rtsp://rmv8.bbc.net.uk/radio1/051020_robbieqa.rm rtsp://rmv8.bbc.net.uk/radio1/051020_robbie.rm
2nd stage
download this program http://www.qwerks.com/download/8498/BBCRadioRipper.exe
3rd stage
Run BBCRadio Ripper and Load (eg) rtsp://rmv8.bbc.net.uk/radio1/051020_robbieqa.rm as the url then rip as MP3 file
Run BBCRadio Ripper and Load (eg) rtsp://rmv8.bbc.net.uk/radio1/051020_robbie.rm then rip as MP3 file
You'll have to do this on broadband, as on dial up, you'll time

Brendan
I have just finished burning to disc both of the links from Radio One. I have spent best part of 3 days trying to find a way to save the file format myself. I can't thank you enough for the help you gave me. It all works a treat!
I would like to add that my daughters won Radio One tickets to see him in a private concert at his rehearsal studios and sung a line each with him which is why I wanted to save the recordings.
Thank you

Lyn,
Pleasure to solve problem for you, as you gave all factual information required at each stage, and without people jumping in with info/facts that were not required, it was an easy process, and took about 40 minutes total time to solve. Much more pleasant than trying to do same on open forum with all the aggro that entails.

Brendan,
I may have missed the point of the original query. I agree your procedure works and is free, but for the sake of USD 29.95 I use REPLAY MUSIC (www.applian.com). (not to be confused with REPLAY RADIO from same company).
All you have to do is start the audio feed you require (live or listen-again or any other source) and start REPLAY MUSIC. It has (a totally unnecessary in my opinion) function of trying to identify music tracks from an online database, but I effectively disable this by setting a ridiculously long track interval.
Also like their MP3 MAGIC prog for editing recordings.
**correction** You must start REPLAY MUSIC *before* starting the audio feed, other way around will not work!

Ypur post just reinforces why I've given up on providing help online. The requirement was to record two items of daughters on Radio, not to purchase software to do it repeatedly, as is clear if you read the thread. Your way will work as well as mine, but the requirement was for a one off, not repeated, so free seemed like a good way to go. If the requirement was for multiple recordings of BBC, then I'd have given very different options
Will download and have a look though, as always interested in new software.

Sorry, but it was not evident to me from what is posted on the forum that it was just a one-off requirement to record two tracks, and I remember the performance I went through when I first wanted to record.
(the notification post I received by email is completely different to one above .... I guess you edited the original).

wmr is spot on for dragging out those hidden ra / ram addresses - well found.
I have found hidownload really simple for downloading the stream. just add the address and it does the rest for you.
Just offering an alternative, not a criticism to the software mentioned.

Brendan - thanks, I remembered this thread and there are a couple of radio programs I wanted to listen to on the way home ....
The BBC do (now?) give a direct link to the ra/ram address - there is an option to launch the file in a stand-alone program - I could just copy that address and put straight into the BBCRipper program ... very handy! Ta!

ah yes, that makes it a much simpler process. They seem to have added stand alone since the original thread
