What about having the sort by last post as the default setting on the forums, rather than creation date? A lot of people don't alter their settings and posts get "recreated" a few days later simply to keep them active. This is not very efficient. I can't see a problem in changing the default on the site. Our YC forum works this way all the time and new users always see the active posts no matter what creation date. Is there a downside? Somebody tell me. Is there general support for this change? Let the administrators know if so. Thanks.

There is a lot of support for it judging by previous comments here. I'd certainly like to see it changed

You know you can change your preferences and it will display by last post? Your choice will be stored, so you'll see the posts listed as you request.

Yep, we know that, but what we are saying is that it should be the default, as it is on 99.99% of forums. I've lost track of how many times I've told newbies that you can see the forum in this way, and where to find the option.

I get that, but if I change it now won't at least 50% of the existing members get confused when they next login?

Can't you just make it default for new users? No need to change settings of existing members
