I snatched this from our Swedish website just to see hwat it said. Not a lot according to the translator, though the first line has me a bit worried as to exactly what they get up to on boats up there...

On-line translators leaves a bit to be desired...
What you need is a native English speaker with good knowledge of the source language (Grammar, use and terminology) and with some technical knowledge... Also helps with proof reader with the reverse background..
I know ... I am married to a professional translator/interpiter...

Well, working for a company involved in translation/localisation software I can tell you that any machine translation will give you the gist at best. They get better if they're tuned for a specific vocabulary/industry, but the free ones are very generic. Where did you find a Swedish one, out of interest?
As an aside, try learning a little Swedish - it's a fun language and not that unfamiliar at all...

All depends on the quality and precision of the source writing, and the vocab and idioms in the dictionaries. My team translated all the UNIX man documentation into major european languages in 1986 using a machine translation system - over 95% good first pass then polished by the linguists. Also used to do a lot for IBM & DEC as well as our own stuff (ITT).
I was quite well known on the MT circuit then, featured in various media etc. Machine Translation was the "coming thing". Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have made much progress since I left the field in 1987, although there is some very interesting work going on in statistical translation (statistical analysis to determine the most probably correct translation).

Here's another "gist" translation....
Westline F24 is a walk-around-boat with good deck space where one easily and quickly can move around in safety with a proper pulpit and good handholds. Reliable inboard power from Volvo Penta or Yanmar makes this a boat with good fuel economy and very good turn of speed . Plenty of stowage and easy access to the tankage are additional advantages onboard this well designed day boat with a layout that is equally as well well suited for short and longer journeys.

Thanks guys.
I am learning the lingo, but am only at the speaking and understanding stage, rather than the reading and writing stage - but getting there.
I just thought the first line was quite funny....
