There have a been a couple of threads about interior lighting on boats recently - here and here in fact.
I've been talking to the UK importer of these units and we finally have a price - £44.75 +vat and carriage for orders of 10+ units.
I'm happy to organise an order for a group buy if I can have any firm expressions of interest - could you post quantities here and then at the end of the week I'll get the order underway?
The order will be delivered to me here in Brighton; arranging onward postage is easy enough at cost.
Any interest?

Do these work with the standard Princess lightis?
I think they are halogen.
If so, I'm up for a couple plus one as a spare.
So 3 in all.
Can anyone see why these wont work?

I think houghn said that he just swapped his existing switches for the dimmers, so I am presuming that they are a straight replacement.
The standard bulbs are Cantalupi xenon halogen, apparently (sounds slightly contradictory, but there you are).
Ok - I'll put you down for three.

A few things
1. I need 24v version please (if they come in different versions...)
2. Please confirm these are the ones you're ordering (just the black part, not the gewiss silver frame shown in the pic)
3. And please could you post a link to the product spec, or could you just confirm they are just installed in series with the actual lampbulbs, ie you just cut the 12v DC +ve wire close to the light switch and insert this gizmo in series?
4. Do you happen to know if they "remeber" their setting? Ie if you dim the lights, then turn the lights off, then turn them on later, do the lights illuminate to the previously-set level of dimness?

I wasn't going to swap my gewiss switches for these. I was going to insert them in series in the blank gangs in the Gewiss switch plates, adjacent to the rel;evant rocker switch. So you can still use the existing rocker switch to flick the lights on/off quickly, and only fiddle with the dimmer contral when you want to adjust the brightness. Makes sense? It's a hassle having to fiddle with a dimmer imho when you just want to switch the lights on/off

No they don't memorize the dim setting, they always start full on and you press the button to dim, and release and press again to brighten.
The wiring is not completely straight forward, i'm no electrical expert, but there was already one dimmer on my boat so I was able to copy it. It seems the dimmer operates on the negative side, not the positive side, in as much as there are two black wires going in, but only one red.
There is a wiring diagram in the instructions. No problem to place in series with a rocker switch, in fact its a much better way, 'cos you can still turn them off when (not if) they fail.

Thnaks. I'm ok with them not rembering. Just wanted to know. I dont understnad the "operate on negative side". The wire that has the rocker switch in it is kinda 24v+ either side of the switch, and the 0v wire on the 0v side of the lamp bulb is often not accessable at the light switch location. If the dimmer just needs a 0v however, that should be fine as there is a 0v in the light switch location to make the blue LEDs work. Might have to google for a wiring diagram...!
(There was much action on your boat yesterday. 2 blokes all day. Coolbox top all chopped off. Some (fairly) neat 3inch square white trunking put around the services inside the bbq unit. If they keep up this pace all week they could finish by the weekend)

Talking of action on boats - what happened about that bloke sickboy (did I remember the right name?) who was looking for a sof charter for, well, some action...?

DC dimmers usually need both the live and neutral (0v)conductors to operate so they are not a straight replacement as say a 240v ac dimmer is (which is is series with the live conductor). If you're lucky the 0v wire is also in the switch assembly- if not you will need to find the one that actually feeds the lamps in question! You can't just pick up any 0v wire.
