Just a note to cheer you all up and a tip. (VP DPA duo prop and others presumably) Obviously every time since new when you / your service agent re-fit the prop (s) then after the cone has been fitted on you the set the locking bolt with the correct torque setting to ensure its tight but not over tightened. I have currently had the locking bolt sheer off, inside the shaft, probably due to the stress of overtightening over the years. In true 'spring' boating style the cone then wound itself off and joined the 6 week old rear prop in marineworld. So its lift and hold hopefully, drill and tap out, new prop and cone next week. These bolts and the washer are £7 + from your vp guy but would suggest they should be considered time spent on a regular basis especially if they have an unknown history.

Good tip mont.
There are several cones/bolts.
I guess yours was the early type, the shank is thin and designed to snap .
there is also another good reason to change every or every other use in the end of the thread is a soft blue locking stud. the locking properties do not last for ever.
I also had to drill out the sheared bolt , MBM managed to do it in the water. Dinghy put on the bow and filled with water, and a bow up party, I had to supply the wine
It is possible sometimes to remove the bolt with a thin bladed screw driver, welt with hammer, press hard and unscrew.

The small thin shanked bolts were designed to break and the cone was lost under stress.
The new cones are designed to break off leaving the thick bolt and part of the cone left in place. The new ones should not need to be drilled out.
(As always happy to be corrected by the Volvo professionals, that know their stuff, I am just DIY)

I had exactly the same problem last year.Lost nose cone & small stainless prop in 100metres of water just off Isle of Benedorm. Carried on to Ibiza at slightly slower speed. Managed to get broken bit out by tapping round with centrepunch. just be very carefull you dont burr edges or drilling will be your only option Nat
