Many thanks MBM, Saved me £30K
      #1904367 - 23/06/2008 13:33

3 years ago I wanted a secondhand boat and I was torn between a Princess 360 and a Sealine 350/F36/F37, other bargain price boats also clouded the issue when MBM published an article on Princess 360s.
They said they were a 'bullet proof investment', a brave statement even 3 years ago !

I searched 3 places
Boats and Outboards
MBM Internet site
Essex Boat yards

I had the choice of 13 P360s in the UK from £95 000 to £135 000

I just did the same search and found only 3 P360s

£115 000
£125 000
£154 000

Clearly some sort after boats are remaining sort after , all this nonsense about Diesel Depression is just an excuse for owners who dont look after their boats or bought Foreign crud thinking they were getting a bargain !

Anyone thinking of buying a boat should not be tempted to buy a foreign boat or weired design, stick to sought after British boats and enjoy.

There have always been cheap weired foreign crud out there, always will be but only a few skinflints will put up with inferior build quality, no one REALLY wants them thats why they are cheap !

Interesting.

Cannot believe with all the Gludy doom that the mid price of the crop is up £20K over 3 yrs.

Not sure if the LOA and general size for the Uk market features in this maybe more than the Uk build.

Some fair comment there but don't forget lots of brit buyers are buying for the med and not every brit built boat is seen as the epitome of design and quality. Some of our med friends don't rate brit sports cruisers at all and if you have certain models down there you are stuck with them, no one wants em. I would take exception to your comment that all foreign boats are 'crud', there are a few on here who would take you to task on that one having owned both brit and med built boats and stuck with the med route. Don't forget Italians have been building pleasure grp stuff an awful lot longer than us and know quite a bit about boat building. You of course know that a goodly percentage of the joinery, deck gear, trim, electrical looms, finishes indeed everything from helm seats to teak decking comes from Italy, you maybe surprised walking around some of the joinery shops in Italy to see where the crated up joinery etc is destined for.

And as aside I have seen both ends of the spectrum, some beautifully built med yachts and GB built too but I have also seen some gawd awful brit stuff and a raft of design and quality issues and vise versa.

I think your statement should read more ' buy a quality and recognized brand' rather than just buy on British build. No disrespect to any brit builder or med builder but there is good and bad both sides. Then of course you could chuck scandi builders in there and the likes of windy et al are superb built yachts and fetch secondhand values some brit and med builders can only dream about, haven't noticed any cheapo Botnia Targa's recently that's for sure .

I dont know all this praise for Princess

in fact I was selling a Princess a few weeks back, of the big ones and of the glory days early 90s one and this boat was soaking with water from the upper decks, now I cannot go into detail much but I had a similar problem with a Squadron just a year ago
and many surveyors in the med will tell you that it is a common problem with the British makes, infact if they like the client it is the first thing they check

they are good boats but way far from being on the top of the league
