Perkins warranty work
      #1858405 - 14/05/2008 12:49

I need some work carried out, under warranty, on my 148hp Perkins engine. The nearest, to me in Dover, authorisd dealer is on the Medway but having booked a call with him several weeks ago, did not turn up and when I phoned said he was "too busy" but would call the next day. Once again he did not turn up and once again did not phone to explain. His phone is now unanswered. How do I get my engine repaired? Any thoughts?

Hi

Perkins need to get their shop in order. I too needed to get some warranty work done, last year, and it took nearly 6 months to actually get the work done. I sent numerous emails, not just to the dealer, but to the distributor as well. In the end I was so angry I told the dealer I was going to get some advice from the RYA legal department as Perkins were not honouring their warranty and also stated that I wished I'd gone to a different engine supplier. Within a few hours the phone was ringing and a few emails received and the work was completed not long afterwards.

Have you contacted Perkins direct? If not then go through the company that supplied the engine and installed it. Keep on sending emails/letters and keep copies. If you are a member of the RYA ask their legal dept for advice. If you've booked a Perkins agent and he has not kept his appointment then complain until you get some answers. It sounds to me as though he can't be bothered so Perkins should look for another agent to cover that area.

Let us know how you get on.

Many thanks for your response. I have in fact been on to many of the people you suggest and Finning/Sabre are now sending a man from the Thames down to Dover to do the work. Also had a good response from the Dept that actually makes the engines. We all seem to agree that the Medway dealers behaviour is totally unacceptable but the fact remains that I wasted two days waiting for the wretched man and am also at a financial loss as I gave up a paid up trip to calais to accomodate his second proposed and not actioned repair date.
