How close is it safe to go to the Eddystone? Can you cut into the "International Maritime Boundary" as marked on the chart - looks plenty deep enough much closer in for my 1m draft - but I assume that's breaking the rules?

You'll see fishing boats right up to the edge. Surely the essence of marine rules is to do no harm so if you are not fishing, anchoring or landing you are OK? I'd be interested to hear why not, if not!

I used to go out to the Eddystone regularly taking out angling parties bass fishing. Regularly "wiffed" for bass in the narrow channel between the existing lighthouse and the old smeaton tower. It is fairly safe to the south. On a very low spring tide with any sea running be wary of the Nor-East rock otherwise you can go near enough to the tower to chuck the keepers a pasty. (Although I don't think there are regular keepers anymore)

Cheers for the replied. We rounded without a problem yesterday and cut in _fairly_ close, but definitely not close enough to chuck a pasty lol.
Vic, it's changed a little since your photo was taken!! Hehe - that looks like something out of Thunderbirds.
