I'm planning my first foray into the Deben this next week in Bonsella (a bilge keel Sadler 26). Current plan is to get to the Deben entrance 2hr before HW and then use the Deben chartlet for pilotage. I’m hoping to get into Tide Mill but failing that will find a mooring (if I’m lucky) or anchor. I’ve seen lots of advice about getting into the river but less about getting out. The next destination is likely to be the Walton Backwaters so ideally I’d like to leave the river at HW-2 to have some favourable tide down towards Pye End. Does it make sense to punch out of the river against the tide? To do this, I guess we will need to have anchored or moored at Ramsholt or somehere because we will not be able to get out of Tide Mill and reach the mouth of the river by HW -2.
Grateful for advice from you East Coast experts out there concerning the getting in and out and about where best to spend 2 nights in the river (I have an inflatable tender). Thanks Morgan
