blockades in St Malo, Carteret, Granville and Le Havre.
      #1867532 - 21/05/2008 23:49

BOTH Condor Ferries and HD Ferries have had to cancel sailings today because of French fishermen protesting in St Malo.

The fishermen, who are protesting about the price of diesel fuel, have set up blockades in St Malo, Carteret, Granville and Le Havre.

They are blocking entry to Carteret by setting fire to mattresses, wood and rubber tyres on the road, leaving the air full of thick black smoke. In St Malo they have blocked the marina entrance with fishing boats.

HD Ferries have cancelled all sailings between Jersey and St Malo today because of the blockades and said they are currently contacting all passengers affected.

The Condor 10 ferry arrived from St Malo this morning, but Condor Ferries cancelled the return journey at 8.45 am because of the disruption in France. They said that they had begun contacting passengers last night and that everyone affected was entitled to a refund or a change of sailing date.
