Yanmar Gearbox Whine

I've got this whine when motoring in forward gear which is not audible in reverse. Ive had the boat for 3 years and the whine has always been there although I think it is getting louder(maybe just imagination). The engine is a 2GM20 which runs fine. Servicing has been done each year. Anyone any ideas or similar simptoms?

go and post in reader to reader or motor boat forum, dont think you are going to get a reply in this forum, which is for red diesel...
