Sensible Boat Safety Scheme chap wanted near Weybridge
      #1771622 - 03/03/2008 07:52

Can any one kindly advise of a sensible BSS inspector for the Weybridge area to "do" my old Ocean 30 this year? I don't want to get ripped off with loads of unnecessary work and expense as we hardly use the boat anyway and are seriously thinking of selling it. We have done no end of refurbishment work on it already. A PM with a contact name and number would be good. Thanks in advance.

I used a chap called Joe Whitby when I was in Wargrave; not sure how far he is prepared to travel, but I found him a very reasonable fellow to deal with. Will PM his mobile number.

On the subject of BSCs, does anyone know the requirements for batteries? I know they need to be fastened, and the inspectors like to see them in a box but do they have to be in a box, and does it have to be vented through the skin like gas?

Not sure but don't think they actually have to be in a box, just secured in place and their top covered so nothing can fall on the terminals.

On all the boats I've owned, they just vent into the engine bay.

Darren.

Try this outfit , reasonably near to you.

Did my boat four years ago and will be doing it again, 'nuff said?

There's no mystery about the BSS, the manual is available for download from the BSS website read it and you'll know as much as anyone else.

The main issues are Gas, ventilation and electricity. It works on the basis that you should not be a danger to other users.
