Every day I recieve notification of this that and the other boat being stolen. ( www.stolenboats.org.uk ) Most of these are fast units on trailers such as Ribs and speedboats. I can't help but wonder what happens to these, I mean there's literally hundreds, if not thousands, going missing every year. I can only assume they are put into Containers and shipped abroad. I believe this 'industry' is far greater than the Old Bill realise.

I understand some are stolen just for the outboard, and then dumped/torched.

Boat jumble season. I lost my rib last year, chained to the racks at MTYC, security lights, barbed wire etc. Five went in one go. Local police reckon that some of the water based travellers may have done it, string of ribs towed away and then deflated, transit van and jumbled. No outboards went. Certainly not amateurs to take so many in one hit, a couple of days before the Essex jumble but otherwise midweek so nobody would notice for a few days. Insurance only ran to a replacement airdeck which isn't as desirable and has no front lifitng eyes.
