This pulled in alongside us in the marina on Saturday night.
I wonder what they were surveying? Water quality?
Wondered if the thing on the side was some sort of sonar to check the river contours prior to dredging certain areas maybe.
Whatever, it looked like overkill for the river, two large looking outboards on the stern and all the safety gear you could want.
Darren.

Maybe it will run agound in one of the countless shoals and knacker its outboard props......
Or maybe its here to chase any speeders they spot with their radar guns?

You need to get out on the river more - you should have gone by now !!!

I was thinking that maybe I should get out less?
Its only when you use the Thames a lot that you notice all this stuff.
But you dont want us to knock the EA so I must shut up!

It was down by the Eton Rowing Club EA moorings at the weekend. Checking depths by the looks of things. Didn't quite know why it had 2 large outboards or Radar!

I spoke to the crew. They work out of Bath and have just been working in the Irish Sea. They are “mapping” the Thames from Chertsey up.
All the best

No objection whatsoever to constructive criticism of the EA - in fact they get a fair bit of it from me. It's the silly digs I feel are unhelpful.

This is good news, it looks like someone at the EA is listening and at least trying to find out exactly where various shoals are. I don't think cheap jibes at the boat being over equiped for the river are really relevent, theres quite a few river users on here with similar reserves of horsepower etc...

Well, if they read this forum and/or listened to B1 et al, any of us with deeper draught boats, they would know where the shoals are, we've found them:-)

..but not paid for by the Tax payer. The EA are always on about not wasting resources. Anyway the reasons for the extra horsepower have now been explained.
