What price a boom?
      #1857786 - 13/05/2008 21:57

I painted my aluminium mast and boom about 5 years ago (boom was gold anodised, dating from the seventies). With the mast it has worked fairly well, the boom however has blisters at every fitting. I don't think it will last much longer.

How much is a new boom for a 31footer? The boom is about 4,5m.

I just need a rough ballpark figure. Hopefully I can transfer as many fittings as possible.

Its just a piece of alu tube, so how bad can it be. No single line reefing system, just an outhaul, lazy jacks and 2 blocks at the end for the reefs.

I have just renewed mine for a Dehler 31 boom length 4.8m blank cut to length (4.2)
Z spars of Hadleigh about £250

Yes, I also recommend Z Spars - they supplied me with a free replacement second hand boom extrusion(scratched in places) cut to size, but I did have to buy new castings on each end - to suit the new boom section. Oh and they made a new SS gooseneck to suit the mast.

Yes that's the most cost effective way. I got a 'seconds' boom from Z Spars.

One end was fitted, other end loose, rivets were supplied.

It was overlong, but of the required section and had some very minor scratching.

Very considerabely below the price of any other.

Iain

Another vote for Z Spars - a couple of years ago but 3m boom, 'seconds', few light scratches, complete with both ends, rivets etc. for £70.00. And very nice people too!
