River Clyde infill of famous basin.

Sad to see another part of the Clyde's heritage go for commercial gain. I would not want a house there even with the view. Flood risk must be high.

I agree. Difficult to use the word 'progress' when this happens.
I just feel a bit sad.

I passed it on my way downriver to my mooring yesterday at it was coming up, it appeared out of nowhere a few miles ahead of us - now I know where it popped out from.
Estuary Contol had warned me that it might be operating near Bowling and I wasn't particularly looking forward to meeting a dredger working in a relatively narrow channel.

Yes, sad to see things change, but at this time there is no need for the dock, and it ain't the prettiest of places.

Maybe they'll put a statue of Para Handy in the middle of the housing.

Last time I saw Sauspan-Dau it was depositing Chichester Bar onto Hayling Island.

The sad thing was the demise of Clyde shipbuilding. Since that's a thing of the long distant past, I have no great sentimental attachment to a concrete hole in the ground which was put there for commercial purposes in the first place. If it provides better housing for people in the area then maybe that's not such a bad thing.

And I speak as the grandson of Douglas Scott-Phillips, Chairman of Scotts Shipbuilding and Engineering and Scott-Lithgow Shipbuilding

Not so distant.
Ferguson, BAE Scotstoun (Yarrows), & BAE Govan still exist.
My mother worked for John Brown Shipbuilders and I worked, at one time, for Yarrows.
(Actually... yes, that puts it quite a time ago!)

I'm beginning to like my Para Handy idea, he could be sitting on one of the old bollards that are BOUND to become "street architecture". Just like in Foulis's first introduction to the character.

Amazing how you can feel nostalgic for a time and place that you never really experienced.

Maybe I should start a petition?
